Violet Tarr-Shea Obituary

Violet (Knapke) Tarr-Shea, age 95, of Mentor, passed away Friday, May 27, 2011, at Salida Woods Assisted Living.
Among the first women supervisors hired by Ohio Bell after World War II, she was the first woman supervisor to train men to be telephone operators for Ohio Bell.
She and her husband, Harry moved to Chicago and resided there until Harry retired and they moved back to Cleveland. She loved golf and for many years she and her husband were members of Quail Hollow Golf Club.
She was the beloved sister of Agnes (Howard) Harper; beloved aunt of Judyth (Daniel) Zaczkowski, Melissa (Richard) Dempsey and Dr. Howard E. (Diane) Harper Jr.; amazing and loving great-aunt to Jessica Dempsey, Mark Ulis and Richard (Lindsey) Dempsey Jr.; and great-great-aunt to Ava, her namesake Violet Dempsey and Colin Zaczkowski. She also lovingly leaves behind her brother-in-law and family, Jack (Peggy) Shea; sisters-in-law and family, Mary Agnes Johnson and Vicky (Lou) Hirsch and family.
She was preceded in death by first husband, James E. Tarr; second husband, Harry P. Shea; parents, Larry and Carol Knapke; and great-nephews Kenneth Zaczkowski and Brian Ulis.
Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Knollwood Cemetery (Section 29), 1678 SOM Center Road, Mayfield. The Rev. Tadd Butler of Mentor Plains United Methodist Church will be officiating.
Arrangements are entrusted to Brunner Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Mentor.
