Virginia B. Rice, age 96, of Mentor for the past 58 years, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at home with her family by her side.

She was born Oct. 28, 1916, in Arlington, Va.
Mrs. Rice was a homemaker. Grandma Rice's home was always open and her love and acceptance was there for the taking. She was known for her pies. In younger days, she was an exceptional seamstress and made beautiful crocheted items. She also had a love of gardening and reading.
Survivors include her children, Katie Pittsenberger, John H. ""Pete"" Rice Jr., William Thomas (Barbara) Rice of Calif., Lawrence (Carolyn) Rice and Joseph (Patsy) Rice; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; John and Tom Hallbauer, whom she and her husband raised; and Bruce Keating, who spent summers with their family.
Preceding Virginia in death is her husband, John H. Rice Sr.; and great-grandson, Eugene Pittsenberger.
The funeral service will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor. Her grandson, Michael Rice will officiate.
The family will receive friends Saturday 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mentor Cemetery in Mentor.
