William Gavalek Obituary
Funeral Mass for William Gavalek, 85, of Wickliffe, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 29850 Euclid Ave., Wickliffe. (Please meet at 9 a.m. Saturday Orlando-Donsante Funeral Home for prayers at prior to the Mass.)
Mr. Gavalek passed away Nov. 27, 2012, at the Cleveland VA Louis Stokes Medical Center.
Born May 24, 1927, in Carsdale, Pa., he had been a resident of Wickliffe for the past 45 years.
He had worked as a machinist at the former T.R.W. Valve Division in Cleveland.
Mr. Gavalek served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of the NRA, Willoughby Hills V.F.W. Post 4358, American Legion Post 7 in Wickliffe and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, all kinds of sports and was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He also had played football for the University of Indiana.
Survivors are his children, William J. (Nadine) Gavalek and Lynne Maria (Dean) Longo; grandchildren, Matthew Pacanovsky, Paul Pacanovsky, James Dean and Emma Elizabeth Longo; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Kathleen Karanzas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine (Burnaka) Gavalek in 2003; and sisters, Charlotte Gavalek, Elizabeth "Betty" DeSilvio and Dorothy "Babe" Gavalek.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Orlando-Donsante Funeral Home, 29550 Euclid Ave., Wickliffe. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
