Anthony Pasquale Battista, 78, of Concord Township, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at Hospice House of the Western Reserve in Cleveland.
Born Sept. 15, 1935 in Painesville, he was a lifetime resident of Lake County.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of Painesville Elks Lodge 549, Fairport Harbor VFW Post 7754, American Legion Post 336 in Painesville and Moose Lodge of Painesville. He loved to work with wood and was known as the ""meatball king.""
He was the beloved husband of the late Marlene (nee Fleming) Battista; and Jeanine M. (nee Neilsen) Sturdevant the mother of Laura, Lea and Resi; loving father of Laura M. (Donald) Disbro, Lea M. (Robert) Smith and Antonia T. ""Resi"" (Dan) Sturtz; cherished grandfather of Jason Lewis, Josh ""Buck"" Lewis, Nina Koreen, Hilary Smith, Adam Lewis and Michelle Aker; great-father of Layonna, Alexis, Rileigh, Phoenix, Solomon, Elise and baby Ryker; son of the late Anthony P. and Bertha (nee Hunkala) Battista; brother of Helen Battista and Mary Ames (both deceased); and uncle of Linda Rigby.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Noel Church, 35200 Chardon Road, Willoughby Hills. Fr. Thomas Dragga officiating.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Painesville.
