Obituary Condolences

Beatrice W. Britt, 92, of Painesville, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014, at Emeritus in Mentor.
Beatrice was born on September 14, 1921 in Brecksville, Ohio.
She graduated from Brecksville High School and Kent State University. She started her career as an elementary school teacher with Parma City Schools during World War II. She married her college sweetheart Jack Britt, of Girard, Ohio and they moved to Painesville in 1947. She continued her career teaching with the Painesville City Local Schools at Huntington Elementary School, worked as a substitute teacher and tutored students with special needs.
Mrs. Britt was deeply committed to many community organizations that supported education, athletics and the arts. She was a founding member of the Lake County Chapter of Kent State University Alumni Association. She was a member of the Blossom Music Center's Women's Committee and Kent State University's Chestnut Society. She was a longtime member of the Painesville Music and Drama Club, Harvey High School Alumni Association Endowment Fund, Painesville Harvey High School Athletic Boosters and the Lake County Touchdown Club.
She was a member of First Church, Congregational in Painesville and received her 50 year membership certificate in 2007.
Survivors are her daughters, Karen (Jeff) Shanafelt of Uniontown and Barbara of Painesville; and sister-in-law, Betty Britt of Girard. She also leaves behind beloved nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends, especially John D'Angelo, Bon Thompson and Deb Balogh Carpenter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Mildred Wright of Brecksville; husband, John (Jack) Britt of Painesville; sister, Lucille Wright Forbes; and brother-in-law, Benjamin Forbes of Brecksville.
The family will receive family and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 14 at the Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Avenue (opposite Lake Erie College), Painesville.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at First Church Congregational, 22 Liberty Street, Painesville. Interment in Riverside Cemetery, Painesville will immediately follow the service.
