Florence Williams passed away peacefully on April 27, 2014 in her longtime home of Mentor.
Born Nov. 21, 1925 in Cleveland to Anna Mueller and Stephan Markowski, Florence will be loved and remembered as the center of family strength. She graduated from Shaw High School, and was a former resident of Eastlake before moving to Mentor with family in 1964.
She was married to Charles T. Williams for 48 years. He preceded her in death in 1995.
Mrs. Williams began her career as Executive Secretary to the President of Parker Hannifin. She was Vice President of Kandy King Confections in Mentor, a company that she owned with her late husband Charles.
Florence was past President of the Mentor Senior Center, volunteered at the Playhouse Square Foundation, received the 2007 Lake County Council of Aging Outstanding Citizen Award, and a 1998 Annual Volunteer Recognition County Award presented by Congressman Steven LaTourette. She attended St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Mentor and Grace Episcopal Church in Willoughby, enjoyed gardening, cooking, learning Chinese and piano, and was an expert seamstress. She loved traveling to Asia, Europe, all corners of the United States and parts of Mexico, and inspired her children and grandchildren with the same sense of adventure.
She is survived by her children, Kathleen Williams of Laguna Niguel, Calif., Karen Royer of Mentor, Charles (Anne) Williams of Palo Alto, Calif., Cheryl (Calvin) Plewacki of Charleston, S.C., Bonnie Williams of Vancouver, Wash., Dr. Robert (Emily) Williams of Tracy, Calif., Bill Williams of Mentor; and grandchildren, Todd Sabo, Scott Sabo, Christine (Alaa) Oumansour, Jennifer Royer, Sandy (Christine) Williams, Chelsea Williams, Chet Plewacki, Heidi (D.J.) Brown, Beth McGroarty, Sara McGroarty, Robert McGroarty, Amanda (Jeff) Coleman, Katie Williams; great grandchildren, Kayla Sabo, Charlie McGroarty Ngugi, Anthony McGroarty Ngugi, Theo Williams and Annabelle Coleman.
Friends are invited to visit from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave, Mentor and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at St Andrew Episcopal Church. The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St Andrew Episcopal Church, 7989 Little Mountain Rd, Mentor. Interment at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, Chester Twp.
