John Bayer, 85, of Willoughby Hills for the past 55 years, passed away July 31, 2014, at the David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland. He was born on January 22, 1929, in Budapest, Hungary.
Mr. Bayer worked for Rickelman Construction until he retired in 1990. He belonged to the Brick Layers Union Local 5 and was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church in Willoughby. His family will remember him as a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He had a passion for gardening, horses, and helping his children. Also, he loved to dance.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anna (Muhlbacher) Bayer; daughters, Heidi (Phil) Chiappone, Helen (Bruce) Barks, Anna Nero, and Theresa Jaros; sister, Anna (Franz) Bubendorf of Salzburg, Austria; grandchildren, Lisa and Philip Chiappone, Heather (Todd) Chase, Elizabeth and Justin (Ashley) Barks, Michael (Katie) and John (Fallon) Nero, Lindsey, Taylor and Hannah Jaros; great-grandchildren, Savannah and Julianna Nero, Brandon and Kendall Barks.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 3, at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, where the family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
