John L. Lorton Obituary
John L. Lorton, 84 , of Mentor for the last 47 years formerly of Mt. Zion, IL and Citrus Park in Bonita Springs, FL., died Sunday August 17, 2014 at Hospice House in Cleveland.
He was born May 5, 1930 in Holliday, IL.
Mr. Lorton was a Planning & Tooling Supervisor for Caterpillar in Decatur, IL & Mentor for 39 yrs. until his retirement in 1986.
Mr. Lorton was a longtime member of Mentor United Methodist Church. He was a Purple Heart recipient while serving in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of VFW Post #109 Mentor on the Lake. John played senior softball in Citrus Park, FL. for 25 years up until his 82nd birthday. He enjoyed woodworking and golf.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years Jean (Pauley) Lorton, children: Barbara (Rev. Robert) Thompson of Chandler, AZ, Patricia (Warren) Pitzer of Mentor, Jerry (Angel) Lorton of New Bern, NC and Robert (Diane) Lorton of Beavercreek, OH, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, sisters: Marlene O'Donnell of Decatur, IL, Nell (Dennis) Petty of Beecher City, IL and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding John in death are his parents: Roy E. and Ethel Lorton, siblings: Hilda Durbin, Ellen Scammahorn, Larry Joe Lorton and Paul Dean Lorton.
The funeral service will be 10 am Saturday at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
The family will receive friends, Friday 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be Mentor Cemetery, Mentor.
