June (Lund) Shiplett Obituary
June Lund Shiplett, 80, of Mentor-on-the-Lake for the past 56 years, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township.
She was born June 17, 1930, in Mayfield Heights.
She was a published author of 15 novels and one non-fiction from 1978 to 1994. During that time, she taught novel writing at Lakeland Community College in the late 1980s. Prior to that, she was a switchboard operator for the former Answering Service Inc., from 1968 to 1978. June held free writing classes in her home from 2000 until 2004.
She was a member of First Congregation Church in Fairport Harbor, graduated from Mayfield High School Class of 1948, was inducted into the Mayfield High School Alumni Hall of Fame, was a charter member of Romance Writers of America and Northeastern Ohio and Romance Writers of America.
The family would like to extend their thankfulness to Altercare of Mentor for their loving care of their mother while at their facility.
Those that love her the most called her "Mahoney."
Survivors are her children, Maureen Allen of Painesville, Geraldine Piet of Willoughby Hills, Yvonne Shiplett of Willoughby and Laura (Thomas) Campbell of Florida; grandchildren, Grant Allen, Brittany (Cory) Phillips, Braxton Shiplett, Vincent and Erica Piet; five great-grandchildren, Jerome, Tamera and Terrell Becks, James Piet and Desmond Kinnard; four nieces; and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Shiplett, parents, Arthur and Gladys Lund; sisters, Rena Groth, Ruth Olsen and Reta Rann; brother, Jack Lund.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at First Congregational Church, 308 3rd St., Fairport Harbor.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Brunner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
Interment will be in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester Township.
