Steven Preckler, 95, of Gulfport, Fla. and formerly of Mentor, passed away Aug. 27, 2011, in Gulfport.

He was born Sept. 11, 1915.
Mr. Preckler was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of the Pasadena Country Club and an avid golfer with the "Over the Hill" gang for many years. He was an usher at Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church for 15 years. Formerly of Mentor, he owned Preckler Floor & Wallcovering, Inc. in Mentor for more than 25 years.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; and his sons, John (Judy) Hagey of Panama, N.Y., and Gary (Martha) Preckler of Waterville. He is the loving grandfather to John (Connie) Hagey, Jeff (Gina) Hagey, Steve (fiancé Jackie) Preckler, and Phil; and great-grandfather of Brandon, Danielle, Rachael, Kyle, and Amber Hagey. He also is survived by a sister, Irene Miller, and loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys "Peg" (Humphrey) Preckler, one brother, Joe, and three sisters, Margaret, Helen Jean, and Julia.
A private memorial service is planned in Gulfport, Fla.
