Richard "Buzz" Salchow, 74, of Deland, Fla., and formerly of Toms River, N.J. and Perry passed away Oct. 2, 2011.
Born March 25, 1937, Buzz graduated from Perry High School in 1955 and from Bowling Green State University in 1959.
Buzz served in the United States Air Force as a Captain, flying KC135 refueling jets until 1966. He then joined Trans World Airlines as a pilot, Flying Lockheed 1011s, Boeing 707s, 727s, and 747s.
Buzz was very energetic and had a great sense of humor. He was an avid golfer and traveled worldwide. He was active in the "Big Brothers" program for several years. He especially enjoyed Elvis Presley music.
Virginia "Ginny" Salchow, 73, of Deland, Fla., formerly of Toms River, N.J., and Fairview Park, passed away Sept. 26, 2010.
Born March 10, 1937, Ginny graduated from Fairview Park High School in 1955, and Bowling Green State University in 1959. Ginny was a schoolteacher and a homemaker.
Ginny was a dedicated community volunteer. She was also very passionate about animals and served as a dedicated volunteer at the Jersey Shore Animal Shelter for many years.
Survivors include their three loving daughters, Karen Salchow of Toms River, N.J., Lisa (Salchow) Tesoriero of Waldwick, N.J., and Ann Salchow of Williamsburg, Va.; son-in-law, Richard Tesoriero; and grandchildren, Richard and Laura Tesoriero.
Buzz is also survived by his sisters, Susan (Salchow) Burhanna of Geneva and Mary Salchow of Painesville.
Buzz was preceded in death by his parents, Marcus and Helen (Reid) Salchow; sister, Marjory (Salchow) Densmore; and brother, William Salchow.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at First Baptist Church in Perry. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Perry Cemetery.
