P. Raymond Youdath Obituary
Mass of Christian Burial for P. Raymond Youdath, 81, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 9925 Johnnycake Ridge Road, Concord. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave., Painesville.
Mr. Youdath went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family and dog, Tiger Sept. 28, 2012, at TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township.
He was born April 5, 1931, in Painesville to Joseph and Mary (Lazar) Youdath. Raymond was a 1949 graduate of Harvey High School in Painesville. After contracting polio at age 19 which left him wheelchair bound and spending time in California, he married his "Mother Theresa", Marilyn at age 27. Born into the nursery business, Raymond always had plants and flowers in his veins. He also worked for the Plain Dealer in Cleveland. As an avid drag racer, he founded Thompson Raceway in his thirties. He enjoyed reading, watching Western movies and watching the boats on the Inlet in Jupiter, Fla., where he and his wife spent the winters for over 20 years. He was a member of the BPOE Lodge 549, the Lake County Nursery Growers Association and as an avid collector of guns, a member of the NRA. In 2006, he published his book "50 Years of Miracles and Adventures". He was a past Special Deputy for Lake County under Sheriff Cunningham. It was Ray's wisdom and his words of encouragement that made him truly loved by everyone. Raymond, along with his wife, was a lifelong member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Concord and they were also close to St. John Vianney Catholic Church, where they renewed their vows for their 50th anniversary in 2008.
Left to honor Ray and remember his love are his wife, Marilyn (Wakelee); their three children, Deborah (Jeff) Mayse of Mentor, David Youdath of Mentor, and John (Sandy) Youdath of Chardon; 10 grandchildren, Jamie Belko, Daniel (Jennifer) Youdath, Chad Mayse, Stephanie (Kevin) McPeek, Adam Mayse, Phillip Youdath, Samuel Mayse, Reyna Youdath, Shawn Youdath and Colin Youdath; six greatgrandchildren, Alyssa, Alexia, Owen, Keira, Riley and Jaxson; sister, Mary "Muncie" Demeter; sister-in-law; Elizabeth Youdath; many nieces; nephews; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Joseph; and his granddaughter, Tabetha.
Raymond will always be remembered as the shining light and the rock within his community and family.
