Catherine F. Shaw, 88, formerly of Quincy, Mass., died peacefully Dec. 8, 2012, at North Bay Manor in Smithfield, R.I.
She was born Feb. 28, 1924, in Dorchester, Mass., to Catherine F. (Fraser) Shaw and Stephen S. Shaw.
She was a graduate of Girls' Latin School in Boston, Mass., Boston University Sargent College in Boston, Mass., and Smith College in Northhampton, Mass.
Catherine enjoyed a long career as a professor of physical education at the
University of Texas
in Austin, Texas, University of Maine in Orono, Maine and Lake Erie College in Painesville.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, William Shaw, Helen Coats and Robert Shaw.
She is survived by five nieces, Jane Shaw Carpenter, Sally Shaw Garrigan, Margot Shaw Nuissl (late husband Carl W.), Susan Shaw Clark (husband Brian Clark), and Joanne Miele (husband Dr. John Miele); and one nephew, David A. Shaw (wife Sally). Catherine is also survived by numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until noon Dec. 28, 2012, at Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., Quincy, Mass., followed by a funeral service at noon. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, 920 Adams St., Dorchester, Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Catherine may be made to the Catherine F. Shaw Scholarship Fund, Lake Erie College, 391 W. Washington St., Painesville, OH 44077.
