Thomas J. Doyle Obituary
Funeral services for Thomas J. Doyle, 87, of Euclid, will be 7:30 p.m. Saturday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. Fr. Martin Polito will officiate.
Mr. Doyle passed away Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at Wickliffe Country Place.
He was born June 6, 1926, in Philadelphia, Pa., the eldest of eight children, born to the late Madeline M. (Kluge) and Thomas P.A. Doyle.
Due to the Depression, he was raised by his grandparents. Mr. Doyle was a graduate of Waynesburg College in Waynesburg, Pa., and a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving as a Radio Operator and Bombardier on the B-24 Liberator. He was active in softball until his late 50s, enjoyed being an avid golfer his entire life having three holes-in-one. He also roller-skated until he was 85 years old and was an Honor Flight attendee to the World War II National Monument in Washington, D.C., in 2012.
Mr. Doyle was a high school teacher in Cumberland Township, Pa., for 10 years and Cleveland for three years, before working in the Willoughby-Eastlake Schools, by joining the teaching staff of John F. Kennedy Junior High School in Eastlake, when it opened and continued teaching there the entire time the school was open for a total of 23 years at the school.
He was the loving father of Thomas (Christine Lucido) Doyle, Michael (Debra) Doyle, Joseph (Dawn Palfi) Doyle, Patrick Doyle, Tim (Wendy) Doyle, Paul (Laura Kalish) Doyle, Margaret (Warren) Payne, Elaine Lyttle, Diane (Gary) Gallagher, Faith (Fuji) Hasagawa and Hope (Ken) Kucinski; cherished grandfather of 22; great-grandfather of 25; great-great-grandfather of one; and five siblings living in Philadelphia, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mildred B. (nee Grile) Doyle, in 2010; and two siblings.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Private burial will be held at a later date.
