Robert J. Davis Obituary
Funeral service and FOP service for Robert J. Davis, 80, of Lakeline, will be 7:30 p.m. Monday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby.
Mr. Davis passed away Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at Blossom Hill Care Center in Huntsburg.
Born Oct. 28, 1932, in Cleveland, he had been a lifetime resident of Lake County, living in Eastlake before moving to Lakeline.
Mr. Davis served as police chief for 17 years and detective/consultant for three-and-a-half years for the Village of Lakeline, and as a detective for four years for the Village of Grand River. For the city of Eastlake, he was a part-time patrolman, sergeant and lieutenant in charge of part-time officers for 38 years, a harbor patrol officer for 14 years, and court officer for five years. At Lake County Hospitals, he organized, staffed and supervised the police/security department for 15 ½ years. For Wickliffe City Schools, Mr. Davis worked as a health and physical education teacher for 28 years, head wrestling coach for nine years, and served as the athletic director for three years and wrestling coach for four years at Wickliffe Junior High. Also in the city of Wickliffe, he was the Coulby Pool manager for 15 years.
Mr. Davis was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Korea and received five ribbons and one Battle Star. He was a lifetime member of the Ohio Association of Police Chiefs, the Lake County Association of Police Chiefs, where he served as past president, Fraternal Order of Police No. 116, where he also served as past treasurer, trustee and chaplin, Police Masonic Fellowcraft Team of Ohio, where he was a past president, and was also a proud member of Masonic Lodge No. 302, and the Scottish Rite of the Valley of Cleveland.
His family was very important, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was also an outdoorsman, who loved hunting and fishing.
He was the loving father of Roberta J. (Christopher) Meehan of Geneva, Rochelle J. (John) Tribuzzo of Montville and Robert J. (Laurie Burns) Davis Jr., of Jefferson; cherished grandfather of Danielle, Cassandra, Heather, Kristina, Rachel, Ashley and Joshua; great-grandfather of Gabriella, Aiden, Arianna and Riley; brother of William (Martha) Davis of Mentor; and brother-in-law of Donna Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Elizabeth (nee Gates) Davis; and brother, Donald Davis.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
