Mass of Christian Burial for Merle A. Walker, 86, will be 10 a.m. Monday at The Church of St. Mary, 401 North St., Chardon. (Please meet at the church.) Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave., Painesville. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Painesville.
A 56-year resident of Lake County and formerly of Portland, Maine, Merle was born Oct. 12, 1927, in Fitchburg, Mass., to Joseph F. and Hilda J. (Gallant) Walker. He passed away Oct. 24, 2013, at Precious Care Assisted Living in Concord Township.
He served in the U.S. Army with the 384th Army Band in Ft. Eustis, Va.
Merle owned and operated the former Walker's Auto Body Shop in Perry.
He was a member of St. Mary of Chardon Catholic Church, where he served as Eucharistic Minister and also belonged to AA in Lake and Geauga Counties.
Merle enjoyed building
World War II
vintage model airplanes, playing jazz music on his trumpet and drums and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.
He is survived by his sons, Michael Walker of Maryland, Robby Walker, Eric Egeland of Painesville and David (Debbie) Egeland of Nevada; daughters, Pam (Frank) Nardis of Leroy, Lisa (Mark) Lipaj of Chardon, Judy (Jeff) Gramm of Pennsylvania and Nancy (Mark) Platt of Chardon; 21 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Merle was preceded in death by his wife, Julie (Craig) Walker in 2008.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 5786 Heisley Road, Mentor, OH 44060.
