Ernest "Ernie" Kish Obituary
Ernest ""Ernie"" Kish, 87, of Painesville, passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at his home with his family by his side.
Ernie was born Aug. 19, 1926, in Thorpe, W.Va. He graduated from Gary High School in Thorpe, W.Va., and enlisted in the U.S. Army the day of graduation. He served three years in the Asian Pacific Theater during World War II. Ernie worked at E.T. Dupont in Charleston, W.Va., before moving to Painesville in 1949 where he married Mary Ann Takacs.
Ernie worked at Uniroyal Chemical Company for 45 years. He and his wife raised nine children. Ernie was active with the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 64 St. Mary, and was responsible for the funding and organization of transportation, meals and hotel accommodations for the entire troop of Boy Scouts to tour New York City seeing the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty. He was a member of VFW Post 7754 in Fairport Harbor.
Ernie was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Painesville and was a long-time usher. He enjoyed golfing with his sons, playing cards, and traveling with his wife to their winter home in Dunedin, Fla. During retirement, he loved planting flowers and working in the yard at home.
Survivors are his wife of 64 years, Mary Ann; his nine children, Ernie (Peggy) Kish of Mentor, John (Rebecca) Kish of Concord, Teresa Toutant of Clearwater, Fla., Andy Kish of Centreville, Va., Jim Kish of Painesville, Margaret Moyer of Painesville, Paul Kish of Painesville, George (Michel) Kish of Alpharetta, Ga., and Caroline Kish of Kansas City, Mo.; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Surviving siblings include his brother, Julius Kish and sister, Helen Lucas, who both reside in West Virginia.
Ernie was preceded in death by his infant son, Peter, who died at birth; parents, Andrew and Helen (Kinder) Kish; and brothers, Andrew, Joseph, Steven and Michael.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, 242 N. State St., Painesville at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Painesville.
Friends and family will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, at the Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville.
Contributions may be made in his name to St. Mary Catholic Church.
