Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas H. Bensch, 85, of Painesville Township, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor. Family and friends are asked to please meet at the church.
Mr. Bensch was born Jan. 31, 1929, in Massillon. He was a Lake County resident for 50 years, living in Painesville Township and previously in Mentor.
Thomas passed away Feb. 21, 2014, at Wade Park Medical Center in Cleveland.
He was a member of St. John Vianney Church, where he was a morning sacristan and porter for many years, a graduate of Collinwood High School and an attendee of Fenn College. He enjoyed traveling and stayed at over 80 Elderhostels all over the U.S., bowling, playing golf, and was an avid fisherman.
He was a U.S.
veteran, serving in
World War II
. After the Army, he was employed at Cleveland Graphite Bronze until his retirement.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Patricia Bensch (nee Terrell); caring father of Barbara Dyer of Batavia, Nancy (Bill) Kovatch of Painesville Township and Keith Bensch of Palm Beach, Fla.; grandfather of Brian Kovatch, Chris Kovatch and Celeste Dyer; great-grandfather of Serenity Dyer; brother-in-law of Sr. Rose Elizabeth, O.S.U.; and uncle of Mary Jean (Elwood) DeVaul.
He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Stanley Dyer; and sister-in-law, Jeanne Braucher.
The family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), Mentor.
Burial will be at Mentor Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ursuline Sisters, 2600 Lander Road, Pepper Pike, OH 44124.
