LONGVIEW — Lester H. Brown, 85, of Longview, passed away Monday afternoon March 4, 2013, at a local hospital. Lester was born January 10, 1928, in Sandersville, Georgia, to Joe Horace Brown and Stella Tooke Brown.
He is survived by his three daughters, Susan Brown Thorne and Bob Thorne of Dangerfield, Texas, Patty Brown Bernethy and John Bernethy of White Oak, Texas, and Marjie Lynn Malone of Dublin, Georgia; grandsons, Joshua L Bernethy, Randall S. Bernethy and Christopher Maloney of Omaha, Texas; stepgrandchildren, Steven Thorne and Staci Thorne; nephews, Joe Brown of Lisa, Texas, and Jim Brown and Lou Ann Brown; and a niece, Melinda Brown of Amarillo, Texas.
Lester was a veteran of the U.S. Navy
, serving in both World War II
and the Korean War
. Lester served in law enforcement for 27 years with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Gregg County Sheriffs Department, and for the last 22 years, with the Longview City Police Department, where he retired at the rank of sergeant.
Lester was an active member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church. He enjoyed his retirement, and he was a member of The Coffee Club at the Waffle Shoppe, where he spent many happy hours.
Services for Lester Brown will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Oakland Heights Baptist Church, with Pastor Butch Tanner officiating, under the direction of LeRoy Rader Funeral Home. Interment will be in Trout Creek Cemetery in Kirbyville, Texas, following the service. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today, March 6, 2013, at LeRoy Rader Funeral Home in Longview.
