LINDEN - Mary M. Daughety, 73, of Linden, died Thursday, January 8, 2009, at a Longview hospice.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2009, at First Baptist Church of Linden, with Pastor Jackie Stanfield and the Rev. Jake Morphew officiating. Burial will be in Linden Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today, January 11, 2009.
She was born November 4, 1935, in Linden, to W.S. and Willie Ruth Nelson Daughety. She was educated at North Texas State University in Denton, where she received her undergraduate and master's degrees in education. She was a first grade school teacher in Longview for four years, a civilian teacher for the U.S. Air Force in Newfoundland, England and France for three years and taught for Richardson ISD for 23 years.
She received the Ross Perot Excellence in Teaching Award, was recently awarded the 2008 Citizen of the Year for the City of Linden Award, was a member of the Cass County Retired School Employees Association and a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Linden.
She is survived by brother, Dr. Jewel S. Daughety and wife, Rose, of Richardson, Texas; sister, Betty Radford and husband, Dr. Lee Radford, of Dallas; nieces, Susan Radford of, Plano, Anne Daughety Dethrow and husband, Brian, of Dallas and Lisa Radford Fearing and husband, Kirk, of Nacogdoches; nephews, Michael Radford and wife, Maria Elena, of Dallas and John Nelson Daughety and wife, Carly, of Dallas; special friend, Betty Singleton of Linden; cousins, Charles Nelson and wife, Judy, Louis Goddard and wife, Lucille, Jo Cates, Pauline Gregory and Frances Wolfe; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers will be Michael Radford, John Daughety, Kirk Fearing, Brian Dethrow, Dr. Bob Graves and Bob Ford.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jake Morphew, Joe Wells Lovelace, H.L. Foster, Thomas Ford, Lawrence Coyne and Rick McMinn.
