MARSHALL - Devoted wife, loving mother and cherished friend, Sara Elizabeth Pennington Rudd passed away Friday, April 29, 2011, at the age of 90, in Shreveport, La. Sara was born August 18, 1920, in Joplin, Mo., to Sir Thomas and Lyda Elizabeth (Lee) Pennington.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 62 years, Barry Rudd, who was the love of her life. They met and married after attending the University of Texas.
She is survived by her daughters, Penny Lee Rudd and her husband, Harold Little; Ann Rudd McCorquodale and her husband, Rex; Connie Rudd Holmes and her husband, Michael; eight grandchildren, Charles Kennon, Barry Rudd Kennon, Claudia Feaster, Scott Worster, Erin Worster Stephens, Knox McCorquodale, Courtney Cain and Christen Cain; 12 great-grandchildren, Daniel, Hannah, Rachel, Sarah, Joseph, Faith, Grace and Moriah Kennon, Evan Scott and Morgan Elizabeth Worster and Harrison and Blaine Feaster. She is also survived by one sister, Evelyn Wirth; one sister-in-law, Patty Rudd; eight nieces and nephews; and many other friends who knew and loved her.
The family would also like to acknowledge her special caregiver, Sandra Kennedy, who lovingly cared for and was devoted to Sara for more than 20 years.
Sara loved her church and her friends, her bridge club and her poker club, in addition to her love of the stock market and politics. She managed her family business at the time of her husband's death.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. today, May 1, 2011, at Sullivan Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2011, at First Presbyterian Church of Waskom, Texas, with the Rev. Ed Bowman presiding. Interment will follow in Restland Cemetery in Waskom, Texas.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
If desired, the family requests donations be made in memory of Sara to First Presbyterian Church of Waskom.
