FRANK PURCELL Obituary

69, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, formerly of Lake Katrine, New York, passed into grace on July 28, 2013. A true patriot and believer in service to his country and to his community, he proudly served in the United States Navy and as a professional firefighter in Kingston, New York. A man of dignity and integrity, he was beloved by his family and friends around the country. A much loved husband, father and grandfather, he bravely fought serious health conditions while continuing to maintain his sense of humor combined with a strong will to live. His strength, love and determination were an example to all who came into contact with him. He had a life-long love affair with his wife, Cheryl, as well as a loving relationship with his daughter Melissa Lynne, son Frank, Jr. and granddaughter Jayden Rose. He also had a life-long love affair with cherries, chocolate cake and licorice. An avid fisherman and boater, he could always be counted on to tell a story about the one that got away. A proud Irishman, he had the amazing ability to bring a touch of magic into the air,./. He was also a devoted lover of animals and whose cat, Sylvester, remained at his side until he was called by God. While living in Florida he became a valued and loved member of the Commemorative Air Force, CAF, whose mission was to preserve, in flying condition, combat aircraft which were flown by all military services of the United States in World War II and to perpetuate in the memory and hearts of all Americans the spirit in which these great planes were flown for the defense of our nation. The men and women Frank met through this organization became dear friends whom he loved greatly and who supported him throughout his life. Quite simply, he was a man who dared to rise to all challenges he faced in his life, but more, he did not twist and turn these challenges into meaninglessness but rather used them to set an example to his friends and family. He showed that courage comes in different forms. There's strength, that's the muscle, but love is the heart. When strength and love are put together, anything is possible. Frank is survived by wife Cheryl Purcell, daughter Melissa Lynne Purcell, sons, Frank A, Purcell, Jr., Jeff Purcell and Scott Purcell, as well as his granddaughters Jayden Rose Purcell, Heather Little, his grandson Timothy Bousman and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his Aunt Joan Quick. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Laura and Arthur Purcell, his Uncle Theodore Quick and two grandchildren, Michael Brian and Riley Cara. Pursuant to Frank's wishes, no service will be held. Donations can be made to the Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 4140 S. Ridgewood Ave., Edgewater, Florida 32141.
