Vanic, James Agustive "Papa"*  
James Agustive "Papa" Vanic, 70, of Holly Hill was welcomed through the Golden Gates of Heaven on May 20, 2015. A Visitation will be held today (Friday, May 29, 2015 from 4-6:30pm at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond. The Funeral Mass will follow on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 10am at The Basilica of St Paul, 317 Mullally St., Daytona Beach, FL. James was born August, 24, 1944 to John "Shirkey" and Concelia "Sue" (Selvaggio) Vanic in Bethlehem, PA. Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. After service, he worked for The Travelers Insurance Co. He later started his own carpentry business, working in the construction industry. Jim moved to Florida 30 years ago. Here he attended Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. Jim continued carpentry work here, primarily renovating homes and working at the Flea Market and Dog Track. Jim enjoyed dancing and singing his favorite song "New York, New York". He loved spending time with his dogs: Tippy, riding shotgun in his white Toyota truck and throwing the frisbee with Bo and Cindi. Jim was a great cook and a happy, fun loving person who made new friends wherever he went. He had a smile so bright and always had a witty remark for everything. Jim enjoyed being a member of the Eagles #4033 and the VFW Post 1590. His greatest passion was his family; they were truly most important to him. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and by his son Ronnie. He will be sadly missed by his wife Patricia; by his children Jimmy, Loni, Ricky, Kimberly, Denise, and Shawn; by his grandchildren Brianna, Tiara, Courtnie, Tyler, Zachary, Morgan, Hunter, and Hudson; by his sister Joanne Sterlein (Joe); by his brother John "Jack" Vanic (Rita); by the mother of his children Vickie (Vanic) Kery; by his god-children Jackie, Lisa, Brian, and Tracee; by numerous nieces and nephews; by his good friends and their families: Jim and Carol Burns, Dave and Bonnie Boyd, John and Roberta Buckel, Mary and Joel Hodges, and Jim Boyle; and by many other friends. The family sends great thanks and hugs to the doctors and nurses at Florida Hospital and HospiceCare. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Jim's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, the Cancer Society, and Hospice. Miles and Miles of memories were made and we all know he has been greeted in Heaven by his loving family and friends and his beloved and loyal companion Tippy. "Rest in Peace, my Love." Beck, Shirley Claire (Andersen)*  
Shirley Claire (Andersen) Beck, a 25-year resident of Palm Coast, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2015, at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast, FL. Shirley was born August 13, 1926, at Overlook Hospital, Summit, New Jersey, the fourth and youngest child of Olaf Theodor Andersen and Bertha Christine (Olsen) Andersen, who were both Norwegian immigrants. Shirley grew up in Chatham, NJ and graduated from Chatham High School. After high school Shirley worked as a secretary in congressional offices in Washington, DC. In 1946 Shirley met a decorated soldier, Melville Doty Beck. Shirley and Mel were married on August 31, 1946 at the home of Irving and Bertha (Andersen) Tracy in Short Hills, NJ. Shirley and Mel settled in Livingston, NJ, moving to Short Hills, NJ, in 1953, then Hopatcong, NJ, in 1959, and finally Palm Coast, FL in 1990. Shirley and Mel had four children: Paul Christopher (1947), Donna Eileen (1948), Andrea Claire (1950), and Karen Bertha (1952). Shirley worked her way up from the typing pool at Kemper Insurance to the position of Executive Secretary to the Superintendent of Schools for the Borough of Hopatcong, NJ, retiring in 1989. Melville passed away in 1991, shortly after moving to Palm Coast. Shirley remained active in the Palm Coast United Methodist Church and as a member and officer of the United Methodist Women. She was also active in the Sons of Norway chapter in Ormond Beach, FL, where she met Herbert Nissen, with whom she shared her life, until his death in 2013. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Olaf and Bertha (Olsen) Andersen, her husband Melville Beck, her fiancé Herbert Nissen, her brother Olaf Theodore Andersen, Jr, her sisters Bertha Christine Tracy and Ruth Olive Svenson. Her daughter, Andrea Easton also predeceased Shirley. Shirley is survived by her daughters Donna Davenport and Karen Stone and her son Paul, her 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.

Caban Jr, Joseph*  
Joseph Caban, Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2015. He was born on February 3, 1954 in Manhattan, New York. He attended BOCES trade school where he graduated as an auto body mechanic. He started his career as a heavy collision auto body mechanic in Mineola, NY. He married Millie Martinez and moved to Daytona Beach, Florida in 1977 where he refined his career to excellence. He was known in the Daytona Beach area as Puerto Rican Joe, the best in the business. Anyone who came across him would remember his sharp wit, famous one-liners and beautiful heart. He was a family man who is survived by two beautiful daughters Yvonne Grams-Gateau and Roslyn Caban; Granddaughter Gabbie Caban; Mother Margarita Caban; Father Joseph Caban, Sr.; Sisters Juliet and Linda Caban; his loving extended family Denise & Jackie Phillips; and aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

George, Odessa W.*  
Odessa W. George died on May, 18, 2015 in DeLand, FL. At the age of 93. She was born in Marco Island, FL. She was married for almost 72 years to Harry E. George, who died in August of 2014. They had two children, Gene George and Linda Crowder, two grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She worked in the public school system in various administration positions. Her most recent position, from which she retired after 19 years, was as secretary to the President of Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville. She was a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church where a Memorial service will be held on May 30, 2015 at 11 AM. Gold, Dolores L. "Ganny"*  
Dolores Lillian Gold, a loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Halifax Southeast Volusia Hospice. She was surrounded by her beloved family and friends throughout her recent illness. Dolores was predeceased by her husband, Howard, her parents Andrew and Lillian Kazmirski, and her brother Robert Kazmirski. Dolores was born September 12, 1930 in Ludington, Michigan, moving to Volusia County to attend Stetson University where, she always said with a smile, she received her MRS. Degree to Howard D. Gold, a well-known and honored educator in Volusia County. She loved her role as wife of the first principal of Spruce Creek High School and Director of Secondary Education, but her most important role was being a mother to Stephen H. Gold (Debra), Thomas B. Gold (Ann), Susan L. Gold Cummings (Jack) and Samantha V. Gold Hughes (Richard) and later her treasured grandchildren: Ericka and Stephen Gold Jr., Thomas Gold, Jake and Meredith Cummings, Veronica and William Hughes. She is also survived locally by her special "sister", Lynn P. Schaefer and niece, Gwen K. Gold, many extended family members, and many treasured friends. After receiving her A.A. Degree at Daytona State College, Dolores enjoyed a career in Early Childhood Education for many years in New Smyrna Beach / Edgewater, FL and Shelby, NC. She enjoyed her second career at Leasing Services Inc. and her wonderful relationship with the Rose Family of Shelby, NC. Dolores was a loving volunteer at all her children's schools in Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach throughout her life. She was a volunteer at the Ocean View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and was a member of Memories 'n More memoir writing group in New Smyrna Beach. Dolores loved planning and attending her high school reunions at Ludington High School, in Michigan, where she was a band member, majorette and high school Homecoming Queen. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Smyrna Beach and Ascension Lutheran Church of Shelby, North Carolina. The family extends its heartfelt thanks to her many gracious caregivers, doctors, nurses, physical therapists, oncology hospital specialists, and the Hospice staff. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 30, 2015, 2PM, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 485 Turnbull Bay Road, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168. Interment will follow at a later date in Shelby, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Dolores Gold to Halifax Health Hospice Southeast Care Center, 4140 S.
