Alfred Donnelly Jr.

Alfred Donnelly Jr., 84, went to Heaven Oct. 7, 2013. The time and date of a Memorial Service will be published at a later time. Al was born in Queens, N.Y. As a child, he sang in the cloisters. He attended drafting school and honorably graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea 1951-53. He moved to Connecticut, and then Montana. He was a member of the Local 338 Federal Service 1961-62 in Missoula, Mont., and served as the fifth vice president. In Florida in 1968, he became a Mason in Daytona Beach Lodge No. 270 F & AM. In 1976, Al attained the Order of the Knights Templar in 1968, in Cincinnati, he was the member of an America Bowling Congress championship team. In 1972, Al was president of the post office union in Daytona Beach, and also ran a convention with more than 5,000 people in attendance. A wonderful time was enjoyed by all. Al was also a security guard at Daytona Beach Community College. Al retired from the post office in 1985, after 30 years of service. He and his wife, Louise, traveled the country, visiting Forysth, Mo.; Cherokee Village and Mountain Home, Ark; Kingsport and Tullahoma, Tenn.; and Henderson, Ky. Al sang as a tenor with the Great Expectations in DeLand, and was a volunteer at the Kingsport Hospital. He had his own sign shop in Cherokee Village. Al was married to "Honey" Louise for 43 years, and has five children, Katrina M. Osborn (William), Mary L. Thomas (Gary), Dean Donnelly (Michele), James Donnelly (Noreen) and Michael Donnelly (Melissa); nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Surviving also are two great-aunts, Alice McPherson and Adele Malinauskas.
