Carolyn DeVaux

Carolyn DeVaux, beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend to many, passed peacefully on into the arms of our Lord on Sunday, March 9th after suffering from a brief illness. Carolyn was born Carolyn Ann Bishop on July 18, 1944 in Madison, Maine. Carolyn's mother remarried and she was raised as a member of the Hebert family. Growing up in the wooded regions of Northern Maine, Carolyn learned how to have fun without the organized support most kids knew. She enjoyed snow sledding and skating, board games, cards, and was an avid reader. She also developed the independence and strong work ethic that would last a lifetime. Despite often living miles from other young people, Carolyn made good friends quickly. She was taught by her mother there is some good in everyone and it was a lesson which she applied on a daily basis for her entire life. Carolyn graduated from Lee Academy High in 1962 and moved to Connecticut to start her working career. She soon met Terry DeVaux and a new course was set for the rest of her life. Carolyn and Terry married March 2nd 1963 and enjoyed 51 wonderful years of marriage. Besides becoming a full time mom, Carolyn spent 20 years working for the Shop Rite Grocery chain from which she retired in 1990. She could always be depended upon to volunteer for a variety of good causes. Her willingness to help others led to high recognition, where as a 40 year member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter 1470, she was selected to be a Deputy Grand Regent for the state of Connecticut in 1999. After spending nearly 40 years living in the towns of Coventry and East Hartford, CT., Carolyn and Terry retired to Ormond Beach in 2002. In Ormond Beach, Carolyn's volunteerism continued to flourish, both as a member of the Faith Lutheran Church and as a member of Elks Lodge 2193. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Terry DeVaux of Ormond Beach, brother and sister in law, Ed and Ticha (Pimentel) Hebert of Coronado, CA., daughter and son in law, Theresa (DeVaux) and Clayton Douglas of Austin, TX., son and daughter in law, Richard and Sheri (Brazalovich) DeVaux of Tolland, CT, "adopted" daughter, Stacy Brazalovich of Viera, FL, brother in law Ron DeVaux of Ormond Beach, seven grandchildren; Justin Domler of Coventry, CT, Kyle Domler of Philadelphia, PA, Jessica DeVaux of Manchester, CT., Ryan, Christian (fiancée, Kelly Hastie) and Addison DeVaux, all of Tolland, CT., Matt Brazalovich of Viera, FL, and one great grandchild, Jayce DeVaux of Tolland, CT. She was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and Richard Hebert, her infant brother James, her sister, Pat DeVaux, her infant son, James and her infant grandson, Aaron Michael. A celebration of Carolyn's life is to be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 2010 West Granada Blvd. at Tymber Creek on Friday, March 14th at 1 p.m. The family requests donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made in Carolyn's name to Faith Lutheran Church, 2010 West Granada Blvd, Ormond Beach, FL 32174.
