CLAUDIA FISHBURNE ROGERS

Claudia Fishburne Rogers, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 3, 2013. Her husband, James "Rip" Rogers, 77, preceded her in death by six days. Both were long time residents of DeLand, Florida. A double funeral service for them both will be held on today (Saturday, January 5, 2013), at 11:00 a.m. at Lankford Funeral Home in DeLand. Mrs. Rogers was the daughter of Charles W. and Evelyn Stuessey Fishburne, and was born on August 26th, 1934, in Miami, Florida, where she attended high school. She was a political science major at the University of Florida in Gainsville, and settled in DeLand about 1960. Her career was in office management in the medical field, and as a legal secretary for the Volusia County Attorney's Office. She was an avid writer, gardener and animal lover. She enjoyed the arts and acting with the "Shoestring Theater", where she met her beloved husband. Always fun and full of life, Claudia was a loving wife, beloved aunt, sister and mother. She relished time with her family and friends, and was known for her calm and uplifting manner. Her humor and warm smile never failed to brighten one's day. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Evelyn Fishburne; her husband James "Rip" Rogers; and her sister Henrietta "Hinkie" Fishburne Hudson. She is survived by her brother Charles W Fishburne, Ph.d., and his daughters: Jennifer Siegel of San Antonio, TX; Valerie Fishbourne of DeLand, FL, and Carla Hall of Ojai, CA. She also leaves behind a daughter, Connie Moran of Ocean Springs, MS; and granddaughter Anna Magdeleine Henry. She cherished her seven great-nephews and nieces: Natasha Crystal Epstein, Joshua Jared Epstein, and Alicia Kirsten Epstein of San Antonio; Christine Nicole Hicks and Samantha Brook Hicks of DeLand, FL; and Jonathon "Rocky" Dewey Hall and James David Hall of Ojai, CA.
