Donovan K. Johnston, 89, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2013 at the Hospice Care Center in Orange City, FL. Mr. Johnston was a Navy veteran serving during World War II, Korea and Viet Nam. He retired from the Navy after 30 years of service as a Master Chief Petty Officer and moved to the DeLand area in 1970 from San Diego, California. He was in the construction business for 17 years in the Deltona and DeLand area. Mr. Johnston was a member of Deltona Methodist Church, the Elks Club #1463 DeLand as Board Trustee and Exalted Ruler twice, Navy Fleet Reserve #147 of Sanford and AARP. He is survived by his two sons, Michael D. Johnston of DeBary and Ronald D. Johnston of Welton, AZ; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. There will be a visitation held Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 6-8 pm at the Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home DeLand with a graveside service Friday, March 8, 2013, 11 a.m. at DeLand Memorial Gardens with Pastor David Walker officiating.
