Edward William Farley, of Ormond Beach, FL, born October 7, 1924 in Lynn, MA, passed away March 6, 2014 after a long illness at his daughters home in Westtown, NY. He was 89. A foreman for Starr Expanison, he proudly served in the U.S. Army
during World War II
. Edward married Jane Louise Ruther and they shared 50 years together until her death 18 years ago. He was a longtime resident of New Windsor, NY where he was a member and a 32nd degree Master Mason in the Newburgh Masonic Lodge and and advisor for the Boys Scouts of America as well as the Rainbow Girls in Temple Hill Assembly #40 in Newburgh, NY. After he moved to the state of Florida in 1988, he was a member of the American Legion, the Elks Club
, the Moose Lodge, and the VFW
. Known as "Eddie the Hat" to everyone for his love of hats, he had a dynamic personality and "did it all". He even rafted down the Colorado River at 73 yrs of age. He had a great sense of humor and was an adventuresome golfer. He is survived by his children: Theodore E. Farley and his wife Karen of Pine Bush and Martha Hall and her husband Bruce E. of Westtown; and four beloved grandchildren, Shaun, Jessica, Kathleen, and Matthew; and two great-grandchildren, Cody and Sarah. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the Elks Lodge, 285 Wilmette Avenue, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Memorial contributions in Edward's name may be made to the
