Francis L. Calkins

Francis L. Calkins, 89, a loving husband and father passed away April 8. Mr. Calkins began serving his country in the U.S. Navy and retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service. He
was an electrician at Calkins Electric before retiring. Francis also served his community as The Exalted Ruler of the DeLand Elks Lodge, Past Commodore of the Lake Beresford Yacht Club, Commander of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the Volusia County Zoning Board. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 45 years, Sandra Calkins, his beloved daughter Dawn Calkins Maxwell and her husband Mike, of Franklin, Tennessee, brother Joseph Lawrence Calkins and his wife Jackie of DeLand, granddaughter Kara Beasley and great grandchildren Kaleb, Isabella and Ava. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm today (Thursday, April 10) at the Lankford Funeral Home, 220 East New York Avenue and he will be laid to rest with Military honors on Friday, April 11 at 2:30 pm at Jacksonville National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in his memory to Journey's End, P.O. Box 220163, Glenwood, FL 32722.
