Herbert Lowell Hoover, 90, New Smyrna Beach, died Friday, January 4, 2013 at Hospice Care Center, Edgewater. Herbert was born in Kansas City, MO on December 5, 1922 and attended area schools and worked for Northern American Aviation which was the beginning of his aviation industry career. He was a Navy veteran of World War II
serving from 1942 until 1945 during which time he married his wife of 67 years, Leigh "Lee". Herbert worked for Martin-Marietta in Baltimore and was transferred in 1963 to the Orlando plant, now Lockheed Martin, living in Winter Park, Winter Springs and finally to New Smyrna Beach. He was a graduate of Rollins College and a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach; New Smyrna Beach Golf Club and Smyrna Yacht Club. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed playing golf two or three times a week. Once he went to California just to play at Pebble Beach, his thrill of a lifetime. He also loved visiting his sons whether in the mountains or the beach. His sons would say he was a wonderful caring father and that he always participated in their activities, whether it was fishing trips, camping or Little League. All three sons were on winning teams and their dad was either coach or their manager when they finished their time in the Leagues. Survivors include his wife Leigh "Lee" E. Hoover; three sons, Michael D. (Kathy) of Sautee, GA; David B. (Karen) of Port Orange and Lee A. (Michele) of Felton, CA; and three grandsons, Matthew, Christopher and Shane. Memorial Mass will be 10 AM Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach. Cremation will be by Dudley Crematory, New Smyrna Beach.
