With Jesus' arms around his shoulders, Jack Whitaker, 81, entered into the gates of Heaven on July 30, 2014. He served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. His career and association with the Local 808 Bridge, Structural Steel and Ornamental Ironworkers Union spanned over 59 years. He became a mighty man of the Lord at Mid-life and went on to minister in the Church of God of Prophecy, and was later appointed Honorary Bishop. He is predeceased by his parents, Pearlie Mae and Robert Henry "Hemi Daddy" Whitaker, his beloved brother Bob and sister Sammye. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Iris Faye, his children, Kathy Whitaker, Denise MacDonald (John), and Jeffrey (Brooke). He is survived by six grandchildren, Jennifer Wood (Andrew), Ashley, Rachel, Mya, Hannah, and Kyle and his great granddaughter, Lauren. He is survived by his beloved sisters Maxine Flint and Deanie Miles (Bill). He is survived by many family members and friends, too numerous to list. He loved, he was loved, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A viewing is scheduled at Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home, 126 E. New York Ave., DeLand, Florida 32724, on Sunday, August 3, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 4, 2014 at 10 a.m. at The Church of God of Prophecy, 4721 Dundee Avenue, DeLeon Springs, Florida, 32130, with graveside services following at Pinehurst Cemetery in DeLeon Springs.
