JAMES SINGLETEARY

James Singleteary, the only child of the late Daniel and Lenora Williams Singleteary of Savannah,
Georgia was born on January 4, 1923. He grew up and attended school in New York City. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. James married the love of his life, Dotnella Craft on February 8, 1962. Of this marriage, there are two children. Always a gentleman and - A Gentle Man- He was a devoted and loving father and husband. He was employed by the New York Transit Authority and retired in 1983 as a subway train dispatcher. He was also employed part-time by ITT Development Corporation as a salesman. He relocated from Queen, NY to Palm Coast, FL in 1985. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, VFW Post 8696, The Afro-American Caribbean Heritage Organization, (A.A.C.H.O), the NAACP, and the New York City Transit Retirement Association of Florida, Chapter II. Prior to his disability, he volunteered at the Floyd Bennett Veteran's Home where he served as chairman of community services. James enjoyed bicycling, swimming, traveling, physical fitness and golf. In 1995, at the age of 72, he rode 86 miles on his bicycle for the VFW American Cancer Society Cycle-For-Life. He was a talented artist and avid lover of jazz music. He was a drummer for many years in New York and New Jersey. He also loved reading his bible and the company of his German Shepherd, Chang. James is survived by his devoted wife, Dotnella of 52 years; a daughter, Andrea Thornton (Erly); son, Daniel James Singleteary (Erika); four grandchildren; sister-in-law Jannie Lynch (Joe); sister-in-law Wanda Wallace (John); countless nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 20, 2013, 10:30AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Friends may visit on Thursday from 9:00AM until mass time.
