On September 29, 1926, in Palatka, Florida, Arnett L. Osgood, Sr. and Louise McCray Osgood were blessed by the birth of their daughter and third child, Loretta. She grew up in Palatka, at tended and graduated valedictorian from Central Academy High School. At the age of 16, she entered Bethune-Cookman College for two years and transferred to Howard University where she graduated in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology. Loretta did further study at Stetson University, University of Florida
, and Syracuse University where she received Certification in Library Science. On December 26, 1949 she married the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Kemp Wright. To this union they were blessed with Janice LaVerne and Robert Keith. Loretta and Bob respected each other and worked as partners in their marriage and in the community; above all, they loved The Lord! They believed these were the vital keys to a successful marriage. In 1955, she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Loretta dedicated herself to a long, outstanding career in education. She worked for the Florida Public Schools of Putnam and Flagler Counties. It was in Putnam County that she found her niche in Library Science. She served as a school librarian in Putnam County and the Volusia County Public Schools where she served with distinction as the librarian at Bonner Elementary School for many years. She also served as Interim Principal at Bonner. She was promoted to the county-wide position of Resource Librarian for Volusia County Schools. After a career that spanned over thirty-five years, she retired in 1985. She became a Christian at an early age and attended Bethel A.M.E. Church in Palatka with her family. While at Bethel, Loretta taught Sunday school, played the piano for the Sunday school and was actively involved in A.C.E. Youth Group. In Daytona Beach, she was a member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church for sixteen years. In 1967, she made a prayerful decision to join her husband at Mt. Bethel Baptist Institutional Church. She became a member under the Pastorate of Reverend Rudolph "Bunky" Matthews. While at Mt. Bethel, Loretta served as President of the Korin C. Johnson Missionary Society for twenty-four years. She instituted the "Salad Sampler", a much anticipated annual event at Mt. Bethel, which includes participation from not only the members of the missionary society but the church members as well. The Salad Sampler continues to this day along with The Four Seasons Extravaganza which are popular annual fundraisers for the church. She was also an active member of the Deaconess Board at Mt. Bethel where she remained a faithful member until her transition. An active member of her community, Loretta was a life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and was a member of the Daytona Beach Alumnae Chapter for more than fifty years and during that time served as former president.
