Margaret "Peg" Allen


Margaret "Peg" Allen, 93, of DeLand, passed away December 17, 2012 at Florida Hospital DeLand. She was born on July 19, 1919 in Ironton, Ohio and moved here in 1977 from Charleston, WV. Peg received a Bachelor's of Science degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and was employed by the West Virginia State Hygienic Lab as a microbiologist-virologist. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of DeLand, Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and the Lake Beresford Yacht Club. She was a former member of the American Association of University Women and the Garden Clubs in West Virginia. Peg enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and was an avid reader. She raised Tennessee Walking Horses and showed Collie dogs. Survivors include sons Thomas Edward Hughes and wife Carmen of Moraga, CA and Ralph Emil "Chip" Eisenhut and wife Marsha of Charleston, WV; daughters Shirley Hughes Hall and husband Wayne of Whitesburg, TN and Linda Miragliotta-Balius of Port Orange, FL; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A Gathering of Friends will be held on Thursday, Jan 3, 2013 from 3-4pm at the Allen-Summerhill Memorial Chapel in DeLand. Memorial donations may be made to either Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Wood-briar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129 or First United Methodist Church of DeLand, 115 E. Howry Ave., DeLand, FL 32724. Peg would like to thank all her friends for the love and support shown all through her life, but especially these last 6 months.
