Norma Jeanne Mierish Barbour

Norma Jeanne Mierish Barbour, age 90, died in Ormond Beach, Florida August 3, 2012. Her husband of 37 years, Col. Alfred E. Barbour, preceded her in death September 25, 2009. He was interred with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery December 11, 2009. He has two daughters Pamela Barbour Taylor of Silver Spring, MD and Sandy Barbour Barlow of Melbourne, FL. Norma Jeanne and Alfred retired to Florida from Odenton, Maryland and were members of the First Presbyterian Church of Daytona Beach and the Halifax River Yacht Club. Norma Jeanne, daughter of Lora May Mierish Canaday, was born and reared in Enid, Oklahoma. She worked as a personnel specialist at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. for over 18 years. She was a spirited individual, avid bridge player, Girl Scout Leader, good swimmer, excellent cook who enjoyed entertaining friends and family and traveling with Alfred. In particular, she loved to garden, arrange flowers, and sew. She contributed regularly to many charities. Norma Jeanne had a very generous heart: a heart of gold. She was buried in Arlington National Cemetery August 27, 2012. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela S. Northcutt of Silver Spring, MD who misses her greatly and prays her soul soars peacefully in heaven. Hope Shasta Daises, roses, bird of paradise, and azaleas bloom a plenty.
