WILLIAM F. MEGEVICK

Funeral service for William Francis Megevick, 78, of Ormond Beach, who died on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia, will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 21 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 600 S. Nova Road, Ormond Beach. Interment service will immediately follow at the Garden of the Resurrection, 338 Ocean Shore Blvd., Ormond Beach. All friends are welcome. Mr. Megevick was born and raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and resided in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Arlington, Virginia, Massapequa Park, New York, and Dunwoody, Georgia prior to retiring to Ormond Beach in 1985. His entire professional career was spent at Equitable Life Assurance Society, the world's oldest mutual insurer. He started as a clerk in the mailroom in Boston, Massachusetts following high school graduation and rose during his more than 30 years at the company to positions including chief financial officer of Equitable's New York branch offices in Jamaica and Brooklyn Heights, and Vice President of Realty Operations at Equitable's headquarters in New York, New York and Atlanta, Georgia. He was a member of the Halifax River Yacht Club and the Loyal Order of the Moose. He will be remembered for his intelligence and sense of humor, as well as his great enthusiasm for socializing, singing and dancing. Mr. Megevick was preceded in death by: his parents, Francis and Anna Megevick; his loving wife of 41 years, Barbara; his sisters Frances, Anne and Barbara; and his dear friend Berwyn Hildal. He is survived by: a sister, Sr. Caroline Julie of Ipswich, Massachusetts; his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Anne and Robert Shelley of Savannah, GA; his son, William F. Megevick, Jr. of New York, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Julianne Temple of Saint Simons Island, GA., Emily Baumann of Louisville, KY, and Robert Shelley, Jr. of Savannah, GA; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and William Temple; and several nieces and nephews.
