Watters, William V. "Vince" 70, of DeLand, Florida passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at Tampa General Hospital. He was born in Princeton, West Virginia to Vincent and Luta (Crotty) Watters and was the eldest of two sons. As a member of the United States Army, Vince honorably served his country during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He retired as a Bituminous Independent Assurance Supervisor in 2005 after a 19-year career with the State of Florida Department of Transportation. Vince was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert, and beloved companion Kathleen Mateka. He is survived by his son, Eric (Mary); grandchildren Lauren and Joji; and niece Stephanie Gilmore. A funeral mass will be held on January 12, 2013, at 2:00 P.M. at Saint Peter Catholic Church, 359 New York Avenue, DeLand, with the Rev. Thomas Connery officiating. The Watters family would like to extend their gratitude to the physicians, staff, and clergy at Tampa General Hospital, specifically the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit, for their loving and compassionate care during Vince's brief stay. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Vince's name to the Tampa General Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 1289, Tampa, FL 33601-1289.
