Funeral services for Mr. Willie Curtis "Bill" Flynt, 72, Daytona Beach, who passed on December 13, 2013 at home, will be 1 PM, Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, 580 George Engram Blvd., Daytona Beach, with Rev. Nathan Mugala, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 8:30 PM, with family receiving friends from 5 - 6 PM, today (Friday, December 20) at RJ Gainous Funeral Home and from 11:30 AM until service time at the church on Saturday. Willie was born in Forsyth, GA to the late Cornelius, Sr. and Mamie Flynt. When he was very young the family moved to Daytona Beach. He graduated in 1959 from the former Campbell Street High School where he played baseball and football. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam War. Willie was the owner and president of Flynt Concrete Company until he retired in 1990. Willie was a dedicated and faithful member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church; he was a member of the Sons of Allen and former member of the Trustee Board. He served as a member of the Daytona Beach Golf Advisory Board for 13 years. He was an AmVet Post 100 Commander from 2012-2013, Juneteenth Hometown Hero in 2005, Central Florida Community Development Corp. Board Member from 2006 - 2008, former member of Ever Steadfast Lodge, #8, Campbell High School All Class Homecoming Committee and a member of the N.A.A.C.P. Willie visited Washington, DC as an elementary school patrol. Upon his return, he was greeted by Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune and it was then his love for Bethune-Cookman University was born. Willie was an honorary Bethune-Cookman University Alumni. He loved playing golf, fishing and traveling. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Flynt. He was a loving husband and father. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 50 years: Linda Chapman Flynt; daughter, the love of his life: Kimberly Flynt Willis (Keith); two loving grandsons: Shelton and Jalen Willis; two granddaughters: Kirsten Willis, Montgomery, AL and Destinie Willis, Daytona Beach; a goddaughter: Charnay Irven, Daytona Beach; five brothers: Cornelius Flynt, Jr. (Deloris Brazil), David Flynt, Jimmy Flynt (Tammarynd), Nathaniel Flynt, all of Daytona Beach, and Robert Flynt (Fredricka), San Diego, CA; two sisters: Dorothy Williams and Lizzie Flynt, both of Daytona Beach; an uncle: El Thomas Jones (Annie Ree), Forsyth, GA; two aunts: Lucile Mapp, Brooklyn, NY and Evelyn Black, Daytona Beach; special friends: Daytona Beach Police Chief, Michael Chitwood and BCU Head Football Coach, Brian Jenkins, many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted and loyal friends both far and near.
