The viewing and visitation with the family will be on today (Friday, February 18, 2011), 5 P.M. until 8 P.M., at Herbert Thompson Funeral Home. Sister Florrie was called to her heavenly home to be with her heavenly father on Wednesday the 9th day of February, 2011. Sister Florrie Holmes Miller was born on February 22, 1924. She attended Lincoln High School in Alachua County. She was a very active member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church. Her first church affiliation was Greater Bethel A.M.E., Gainesville, FL. Florrie Miller had one daughter, Amina J. Scurry, and was married to Earnest Miller. A great cook, a wonderful spirit, and loved to dress and knew how. She wore the most beautiful wide hats. Sister Miller enjoyed her many years spent here in Daytona. She acquired the name "Pie Lady." She was known for her culinary skills, and her amazing ability to make any dish fabulous and tasty. She also was known for her ability to wear big wide hats and make them prettier. She was a beautiful spirited person and loved her God. She would leave us with, "Follow God's recipe for your life "The Bible" and love each other." Sister Florrie was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Holmes; five sisters, Alberta, Pauline, twin sisters, Essie and Estelle and Carlee Holmes; two brothers, Walter and John A.; and husband, Earnest Miller. Loretta, Kay, Bryan
We can’t comprehend just how sad you must feel
For the loss of Aunt Florrie .
This sorrowful time must still feel unreal
And you’re looking for strength from above.
We hope, from our hearts, that your pain will decrease,
That your spirit will gain strength again,
And we pray that your faith will create inner peace.
And that God will send you blessing
With Deepest sympathy
Until the dark times start to fade.
Love,
Ben, Reggie, Little Reggie, Zaccheus
