Samuel Wells Obituary
Samuel "Sam" Wells
80, of Spruce Creek, passed away on November 28, 2013. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-6pm at the Lohman Funeral Home in Port Orange and The funeral services will be held on Tuesday, 11am at the New Life Church, 5231 S Nova Road, Port Orange. Sam served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, continuing his love of flying he retired as a Captain for Delta Airlines. Sam was a very gifted musician and loved playing his guitar and singing. In addition to loving music he enjoyed flying, golfing and playing tennis. Sam is predeceased by his son Mark Joseph Wells. He is survived by his Loving wife of 55 years Joanna M Wells, and their son Michael Howard Wells of Daytona. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to: New life Church or Hospice of Volusia/Flagler. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.lohmanfuneralhomes.com. Arrangements under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Port Orange.

It has been our privilege to have lived acros the street from Sam and Joanna for the last 15 years. Miss the singing/music gettogethers. A true gentleman, kind soul and very interesting man with lots of stories. We'll mis him. Keep flying old friend, you've earned your white wings.

Although I also flew for Delta, Laura and I did't meet Sam until after his retirement when he and Joanna made regular trips to Durango where we had settled. Many fun get-to-gethers for good chow, music, laughter and tv football. His laid back manner, droll sense of humor and music talent made Sam a real pleasure to spend time with. Our hearts go out to Joanna and Michael.

I always enjoyed my many flights with Sam, he was very professional but in a relaxed way. We always referred to him as "singing Sam from Alabam". Sam was one of my mentors that I tried to pattern my career after.

So sorry to hear of Sam's passing. He was very laid back, easy going, an excellent pilot and was a pleasure to fly with. A true member of the old Delta Family.
