- Arthur Leroy Wilson, age 85, of Port Orange, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 21, 2013. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at Baggett & Summers Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 10:00 A.M in the Chapel of Baggett & Summers Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pinewood Cemetery. Born on July, 13, 1927 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Roy and Gladys Atkinson Wilson, Art attended school in Daytona Beach and graduated from Mainland High School in 1945. Art joined the Navy in 1946 and was a Quarter Master and Signal Man. After his discharge he joined the Daytona Beach Fire Department advancing to Chief and later becoming Volusia County Fire Marshal. Art was most proud of his membership in the Halifax River Yacht Club, and became Commodore in 1993. Art was also a member of several fraternal organizations including a 47 year "Life Member" of Daytona Beach Elks #1141, until they closed and he transferred to Port Orange Elks #2723. He was a "Life Member" of the VFW specifically Post #4250 in New Smyrna Beach. He was also a member of the AmVets #911, and Port Orange Eagles #4089. Art is survived by Geraldine Wilson, daughter, Marsha Walls, stepson, Julian "Sonny" Murry, stepdaughter, Cynthia Henley, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by longtime friend and caretaker Bobby Lambe. He is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Gladys Wilson, sister, Louise MaCraney, and son Kirby Wilson. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Art's memory to the Halifax Historical Museum Inc. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Baggett & Summers Funeral Home.
