Joan Sechen passed away July 5, 2012 at Hospice Care Center in Edgewater. Joan was born in Brooklyn, New York, February 19, 1924. In 1955 she was the Director of the Cerebral Palsy Clinic at the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. Joan moved to New Smyrna from Winter Park when she married her beloved husband Bernard Sechen. She was a longtime member of the Power Squadron and enjoyed dancing with Bernie, writing and photographing the events held at the Yacht Club. For those who knew her, she was a woman filled with life, love and laughter and brought joy into everyone's life. She enjoyed playing bridge and sharing her funny jokes which never failed to get a good laugh. Mother had such a fabulous and infectious laugh. We will all miss it terribly; she was a woman of uncommon grace and style. She is survived by her husband Bernard; three daughters and a son: Elizabeth, Cynthia, Hedy and Gabriel; and two grandchildren: Joshua and Alina. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Joan Sechen's name to Hospice of Volusia /Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. On July 25th at 4:30 - 5:15pm, we will be welcoming friends and family. 5:15 begins the Celebration of Life honoring our mother at Smyrna Yacht Club, 1201 South Riverside Drive, New Smryna Beach.
