Dr. Charles "Chuck" Vedder

Dr. Charles "Chuck" Vedder, 75, of DeLand, Florida passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Halifax Hospice Care Center in Orange City, Florida. He was born in Madison, Wisconsin on August 31st, 1942. Chuck attended Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin where he earned a doctorate degree in sociology. He taught at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas before acquiring a teaching position at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. Chuck taught sociology, criminology and anthropology at Stetson from 1974 until he retired with the esteemed honor of emeritus in 2011. Throughout his career he was actively involved in many projects in the community with the goal of benefiting others. Chuck was a very caring and loving person, who had an incredible ability to connect with others instantly, without judgment, which created special bonds with his colleagues and friends. Chuck is survived by his wife of 27 years, Robin Vedder, his older brother Harry Vedder of Woodbury, TN, son Clay Vedder of DeLand, FL, son Sam Vedder of Kauai, HI, daughter Virginia Vedder Heinz of Victor, MT, stepdaughter Lisa Koenig of DeLand, FL, seven loving grandchildren, and his beloved friend and dog, Lulu. Memorial service will be held on Friday, June 15th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church; 322 W. Michigan Ave., DeLand.
