Mr. Douglas L. Rice, 49, of Orange City, passed away Wednesday, August 8th, 2012. He was the son of Larry and Judy Rice. Douglas worked as a teacher and assistant principal for the Volusia County School Board. Douglas attended Cincinnati Bible College where he received his B.A. in Christian Ministries and later went on to complete his Masters Degree in Educational Leadership at Stetson University in Deland, FL. His last six months he worked at the district level in professional standards, and for the safety and security division. Prior to working for the school board he had been a minister for 12 years. He loved to hunt, fish and enjoyed camping. But he had a heart for working with children and young people. He loved his church and his family, and he will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched. He is preceded in death by his father Larry Rice and is survived by his wife, Linda; sons: Justin (Ashlee) Rice, Jeramey (Angela) Rice, Joshua and Jordan Rice; his mother Judy Rice; his sisters: Beverly Hinrichsen and Rhonda Deeter. He has one grandchild on the way. A celebration of life will be held in his honor on Monday, August 13th at 4:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of DeLand with Pastors Kevin Key and Kevin Smaage officiating. Altman-Long Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
