Evelyn Almonte, 57, Daytona Beach, died November 7, 2009. Evelyn was born in Queens, New York on November 22, 1951. The daughter of the late James and Armida (Rogers) Powers. For many years she was an executive medical secretary, in New York, for Dr. Charles Melone until she moved to Florida three years ago. She will be remembered for her willingness to help others. Evelyn enjoyed dancing, walking on the beach and attending Broadway Shows and the Opera with her daughter, Rebecca. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Daytona Beach. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 30 years, Miguel Almonte; daughter, Rebecca Almonte; mother and father-in-law, Josephine and Miguel Almonte, New York; and nephew, Charles Badami; and his three children of Las Vegas, Nevada. Besides her parents, Evelyn was predeceased by her sister, Pamela Powers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. today (Thursday) at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 201 University Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32118. The family will receive friends at the church today (Thursday) from 10:00-11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Ormond Beach.
