Geraldine Mildred (Lee) Hurt was born on October 13, 1933 to Will and Lillie Mae Lee
in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. She was the twelfth child of thirteen children. She married Charles R. Hurt on August 19, 1955 in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. From their union four children were born. Geraldine loved to serve, and was very active in her church, and enjoyed singing in the choir. She was a devoted wife and dearly loved her husband , children and grandchildren. She was a committed and faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Big Rapids for well over 30 years. She attended Tennessee State University where she graduated in 1955 with a BA degree in English, and a Minor in Library Science, later she earned a MS in Librarianship in 1984 from Western Michigan University. She was employed at Ferris State University for 22 years. Geri served Ferris as an Associate Professor, Department Head, Librarian, and Interim Dean from 1975 until her retirement in 1997. She was very active in the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., AAUW, Mecosta County Medical Center Auxiliary, Women of the ELCA, Church Choir, Ferris Professional Women (FPW), and FSU Emeriti. She was named Ferris Professional Woman of the Year in 1996. She leaves to cherish her memory Charles R. Hurt, Sr., her husband of 57 years; three daughters, Karla (Brett) Kinney of Romulus, Michigan; Ramona (Eric) Brantley of Savannah, Georgia; Judith (Dan) Feutz, of Redford Township, MI, and one son, Charles (Jo Ellen) Hurt, Jr.; ten grandchildren: Tariq, David, Daniel, Kazdin, Charles, Bernetta, Derek, Elizabeth, Kelsey and Joshua; a Surrogate daughter, Gloria (Jessie) Barnett of Baldwin, MI; nephews, nieces, cousins, special friends, and her church family. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, and six sisters. Funeral services will take place in Big Rapids, Michigan on March 14, 2013.
