Gwynelle Walden Ledger, age 80, of New Smyrna Beach, died Friday at home. Born in Bartow, Georgia, Mrs. Ledger came to Volusia County in 1956 from Clay County, Florida. A homemaker, she was a member of South Haven Christian Church. Previously, she was a long-time member of Samsula Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday School superintendent and teacher, Vacation Bible School director, church secretary and trustee. For many years, the Ledger home provided day care for children in the Samsula area. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and baking, canning, growing flowers, making quilts and crafting, and was a former Volusia County Fair Homemaker of the Year. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Johnny; five sons, Jack of New Smyrna Beach, Jim of Quincy, Florida, Alan of New Smyrna Beach, Johnny Duke of Shelby, North Carolina, and Leslie of Lakeland, Florida; two daughters, Jewell Fair of Port Orange, and Ella Adle of New Smyrna Beach; a brother, J. P. Walden of Bartow, Georgia; a sister, June Henson of Milledgeville, Georgia; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Dorsey Ledger, and a brother, Tarver Walden. Her funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 15 at the Settle-Wilder New Smyrna Beach Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Smith, South Haven Christian Church of Port Orange, officiating. Interment will follow in Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday.
