HENRY CAPP Obituary

Henry James Capp, III, 63, of DeLeon Springs passed away peacefully at home at 6:30 PM Thursday, October 20, 2011 surrounded by his family. Born July 16, 1948 in Jacksonville, FL, he was a son of the late Henry J. Capp, Jr. and Carolyn Nesmith Capp of St. Augustine. He attended Terry Parker High School, class of 1966 and Florida Community College of Jacksonville. He was a member of the United States Air Force, a veteran of the Vietnam War. A painting contractor for many years, some of them with his brother and partner, Randy, he retired in 2005 to devote his time to his family. His passions included working with his hands, especially gardening, folk art, and making a difference in his local community by participating in clean-up efforts in DeLeon Springs. Most important to him was his participation in social justice causes, spending many hours devoted to them. He was a member of Veterans for Peace, the ACLU, and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and Journey's End animal sanctuary in DeLand, FL. He also was a founding member of Wage Peace-Jacksonville. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Elizabeth Moore Capp, whom he married August 19, 2000 and his daughter, Desirae Lynn. Also surviving are his mother, Carolyn; his brother, Randy; and his sister, Ellie Snapp (Jim); all of St. Augustine; a nephew, Scott Solary (Luci) of New York City; a niece Nicole Capp Hall (Russell) of Jacksonville; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Ray Capp. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 10 AM at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Jacksonville, 7405 Arlington Expressway, Jacksonville, FL. A reception will follow immediately after the service in the church social hall. Memorial donations in Jimmy's honor may be made to the following: Veterans for Peace, Habitat for Humanity (Habijax), Occupy Wall Street, or Hospice of Volusia/Flagler. The family would like to acknowledge the exceptional care Jimmy received from Halifax Health and Hospice of Volusia/Flagler. A special thank you is given to Dr. Raul Zimmerman, Ray Bertrand, M.Div., and Jimmy's nurses, Hope and Fadwa. "If you want peace, work for justice." St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jimmy and I were good friends at Arlington Elementry through High School.

Then liks most of us we lost touch. He went in the Air Force when I went in the Army.

Here is the ironic part I have been living in the DeLand Area for 30 years
just 10 miles or so from he and his family livedand never knew it. We had similar interests....I too have worked with animal rescues. My wife and I have just purchased a pet store in downtown Deland in preperation of retiring from working for County Government for many years. I am reluctent to put an e-mail address on this pulic forum I would ask the Capps family when in Deland to stop by Grrs and Purrs I would love to meet you

Dear Capps Family,
Blessings to all of you, and to Jimmy as he continues his life journey. I remember all of you very well. Our family, the Allens (kids - Joan, Pam and me - Margaret) lived next block over on Windermere. All of us spent many days running through that Arlington neighborhood playing til dark. Sounds like Jimmy blessed many people with his caring heart and work for peace. Thank you Jimmy. Margaret Allen Hiller, Pawleys Is., SC

Jimmy was a great guy. I knew him as he was growing up as a teenager. Reading about his life and family echoes the strength of him as a family man and a citizen that he learned well from his own family.
