Herbert Lee Conant, 85, a native Floridian died Friday, February 22, 2013 at home with his family by his side. Herbert was born February 3, 1928 in Eustis, Florida to Pansy and Charles Conant. He joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. After he was honorably discharged, Herbert returned to Eustis and lived in this area all of his life. Herbert was a carpenter by trade, and he could build anything. He was affectionately known as "Black Hat" to his friends, and he was a friend who would never let you down. Herbert loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter (when he wasn't sleeping). He will be remembered for his kind heart and wisdom. Herbert is survived by daughter, Crystal C. Richardson of Holly Hill; son, Curtis Conant of Sanford; three grandchildren, Carrmon Hopkins, Tabitha Richardson, and Lorin Conant; two great grandchildren, Beau and Brooke Brannan; two sisters, Ethel and Kathy; brother, Adrian and his beloved dog, Pearl. A life celebration will be held Saturday, March 2nd at the NSB Hunting Camp, in Edgewater. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trial, Port Orange, FL 32129.
