Irene White Merrick, 84, Miami, FL, departed this life December 3, 2012. Her life will be celebrated 11am Monday, December 10th at the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 226 East Howry Avenue, DeLand, with Pastor Willie N. Barnes Jr., officiating. Visitation will be held today (Sunday) from 6pm-8pm at J. E. Cusack Mortuary and in the church from 10am until service time at Bethel. Burial will follow the services at Union Cemetery and a repast at Bethel following the interment. A DeLand native, Irene moved to Miami at a younger age. As a young woman, she attended Bethel AME Church and sang in the choir. Upon moving to Miami, she affiliated with St. Paul AME Church, where she sang in the choir. Irene worked for Publix many years. She leaves to cherish her memories: a son, Ronald Merrick Sr.; devoted grandchildren: Ronald Merrick Jr., Madeline Brown, Shannelle Brantley and Donnelle Merrick; a grandson; great-grandchildren: Brooke, Marquise, Richard, Traniesa; sisters: Louise Franklin, Doris Cooper; brother: Ernest White Jr. (Ruth); a devoted niece: Gail Harvey; three loving godchildren: Mary Davis, Pam Coney and Susan Stokes; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many other relatives and sorrowing friends.
